You can expand the storage up to 128GB via microSD card. It's a one-stop-shop for your searching needs. There's also a search bar at the top of each page that automatically categorizes search results into three sections: search results from Bing, search results from the Amazon store, and matches in your content library. Books, videos, games, apps, music, audiobooks and newsstand each have their own separate page dedicated to that specific content type. A new screen with recently used apps is accessed by swiping right from the home screen, and if you swipe left from the home screen, you'll find that menu screens are organized by content. The top row is very useful if you subscribe to newspapers or magazines whenever a new issue is released it automatically shows up on the home screen. The home screen now consists of a row at the top of the page with new library content and an array of apps on the bottom. Gone is the giant app carousel and gloomy black-and-gray motif of previous Fire OS versions, and in its place is a spruced-up, colorful, content-focused UI. If you swipe right from the home screen, you see a page full of recently used apps. Due to its big low-resolution screen, the Amazon Fire HD 10 isn't as impressive as the 8-inch model (which packs more pixels into its smaller screen), but it still has a lot of good going for it. It still has a good number of apps available, including free ones courtesy of the new Amazon Underground feature, just not as many as Google's.

You can't download apps from the Google Play Store instead you have access to Amazon's curated app store. To be sure, the Fire tablet feels as cheap as it costs, yet - like the Fire HD 10 - it's one of the best deals around for a tablet its size. The smaller Fire HD will only cost you $150, and if you're really trying to spend as little as possible, the 7-inch Fire tablet costs a mere $50. However in this case, bigger doesn't necessarily mean better their identical screen resolution looks fine on the 8-inch model, yet on the 10-incher it looks stretched out. Starting at $230 (£170 or AU$215, if converted), the Fire HD 10 is the biggest Amazon tablet available, and it's essentially a super-size version of the Fire HD 8. The entire Amazon Fire tablet lineup boasts the same Prime benefits, and the range of models vary in size and price. The Prime membership isn't mandatory, but it unlocks an extra level of value for the inexpensive tablet.

Not only can you stream Prime movies and TV shows, you can also download them for offline viewing - onto your internal storage or a microSD card.
(The good news is that you can add the Google Play Store with a little extra effort. If you're an Amazon Prime member, easy access to the throng of digital content that comes with your subscription is only a few swipes away. That’s not a major problem if you’re using the tablet primarily for books, videos, and music-Amazon has those bases mostly covered-but the mobile game selection is lacking, and many productivity apps are missing as well.

On top of all this, the app selection in Amazon’s AppStore is limited, both compared to Apple’s iPads and to Android tablets that include the Google Play Store. (Meanwhile, the mid-range Pixel 4A 5G phone that I use on occasion handled the same game flawlessly.) In Crossy Road, for instance, the graphics looked fuzzy and were limited to 30 frames per second. Games: The 7-inch screen is a decent size for mobile games, and the bezels around the screen provide a comfy resting place for your hands, but performance can be a problem. Either way, through, my phone’s speakers were significantly louder and richer than the monophone speaker on the Fire 7.

Videos: Movies with ultra-wide aspect ratios occupied an equal amount of space on both iPhone 13 Pro Max and Fire 7, though widescreen TV shows made better use of the tablet’s 16:9 display. Amazon’s tablet lineup would be stronger without the Fire 7 in it.
